Calamine Clay
Calamine clay is mainly used in skin care preparations like lotions and creams to soothe itchy skin. It is the main ingredient in calamine lotion and is used to combat skin redness and as an anti-itching agent to treat mild conditions such as sunburn, eczema, rashes, poison ivy, chicken pox, insect bites and other skin irritations.
When used as a face mask, the presence of iron (in the form of ferric oxide) in calamine powder increases circulation to facial skin and also soothes sensitive, irritated, and acne-prone skin.
Calamine clay is also used as a mild antiseptic to prevent infections that can be caused by scratching the affected area, and as an astringent to dry skin blisters and acne.
