💧 Water-Soluble Dye (Hydrosoluble)

FD&C RED NO.40 – ALLURA RED (DYE)

A vibrant, warm, and spectacular red for creations that captivate the eye. FD&C Red No. 40 is a premium cosmetic-grade pure dye (this is not a Lake pigment). Ultra-concentrated, it allows you to create bath bombs, body care, and bath products with rich, brilliant hues, with no need for color “waking” (no blooming).
Raw pure dye is dustier and stains more easily than Lake pigments. We strongly recommend wearing gloves when handling the raw powder, as it easily stains the skin. Because it is highly concentrated, you will need much less dye to achieve your desired color!
Why you will love it:
    • Intense Brilliant Red: Produces rich, translucent, and festive colors.
    • Special Bath Bombs: Colors the water instantly for an immersive bath experience.
    • Fine Texture: Dissolves easily for a seamless, homogeneous blend in your formulations.
    • Cosmetic Grade: Compliant with Health Canada regulations (see specifications below).

Technical Specifications:
    • INCI: CI 16035 (FD&C Red No. 40)
    • Appearance: Fine red powder
    • Type: Soluble dye (fully water-soluble)
    • Particle size: < 45 µm

Usage Guidelines & Recommended Dosages:
    • Bath Bombs: Use between 0.2 and 4 grams (1/8 to 2 teaspoons) per 1 kg of your dry mix. Once dissolved, it creates a gorgeous brilliant red water. Tip: For bath bombs, you can bloom the dye to achieve even more vibrant colors.
    • Soaps (Melt & Pour / CP): Use 1g to 7g per 500g of oils. Colors may bleed or fade over time. For liquid soap: always dissolve the dye in water before adding it to your soap base.
    • Nail Polish: Use a ratio of 5% dye to 95% polish base.
    • Always test the dye in small batches with your specific formulations before full production.

Description

💧 The Science of FD&C Colorants in Your Creations
Our FD&C colorants are premium-grade synthetic concentrates, specially formulated and rigorously tested to ensure absolute skin safety in all your bath and beauty products.
Understanding Color Migration in Cold Process Soap (CP)
Water-soluble dyes as well as Lake pigments share an important chemical characteristic that handcrafted soap makers need to know: they bleed and migrate over time.
Due to their organic nature, their molecules slowly travel through the soap bar during and after curing:
    • If using a single color: Your soap will maintain a beautiful, uniform hue.
    • If creating multicolored designs (swirls): The different colors will slowly bleed and blend into one another over the weeks. This breaks down sharp lines, resulting in a blurred or more diffused, marbled look.

For geometric, high-contrast designs that require sharp lines with zero migration over time, we highly recommend using our Micas or Mineral Oxides instead.
